What's a visit with me like?
I start the visit by getting to know you and your baby, what has been working right and where you are looking for help. I conduct this part on the phone so that we can use the in person time for the parts of the visit that can only be conducted in person! After that, I assess a feeding and/or pumping. From there, I offer suggestions for improvement (if needed) and work with you in real time to improve the latch and/or pumping. To wrap up, we work together to come up with a plan going forward. A few days after the visit, we check in to see how things are going and if any changes to the plan are needed. I offer phone or email check-ins for 2 weeks after a home visit Tamar splits up the home visit conducting all "intake" on the phone first ~ 30 mins in order to reduce the time spent in your home (as precautions due to COVID19). She then uses time in the home 60-90mins to focus on observing feeding and any other visual cues to support the visit.
Describe your philosophy towards breastfeeding and feeding.
Breastfeeding is a natural process and can often require adjustments and fine tuning to make it work for baby and parent. My approach to lactation consulting is to provide parents with solutions that help meet their baby's feeding needs, and their own goals. There is no “one size fits all” answer when it comes to breastfeeding. I offer a personalized plan for parents and their baby(ies).
What is your favorite part of working with new parents and infants?
I enjoy helping parents and infants navigate the ups and downs of breastfeeding. Every parent infant dyad is different and I enjoy helping them find a way to work together to reach what they define as success. It could be anything from increasing milk supply to weaning. Ultimately, I feel honored to help families during such a unique and special time in their lives.
Describe any particular areas of expertise related to feeding
Increasing milk supply, assisting with latch-on, pumping, assessing milk transfer, supplementing, premature infants and infants with medical needs.
Testimonials
Nursing has continued to improve and has become really special. Your help in the beginning made such a difference – I was in rough shape!

“Tamar came to my home to support my child and me through what was the most frustrating part of our first three weeks: our failure in breast feeding. She took the time to fully understand the dynamics of our situation, and made me feel heard. Tamar then offered practical next steps, which less than a week later resulted in me being free of nipple guards, and my daughter able to get a full meal. I highly endorse Tamar’s professionalism, kindness, and effectiveness.”
-Sarah B – Cambridge, MA
“My husband, newborn and I attended a virtual session with Tamar and it was the most valuable 30 minutes we could have ever hoped for! She made us feel so comfortable and her coaching was so incredibly personal and effective. Our newborn is now nursing beautifully and we have the extra sleep to show for it 🙂 The first few weeks is such a crucial time and learning from Tamar has allowed us to truly enjoy it together. Thank you Tamar for your invaluable guidance!”
