    Health Precautions & Exposure

I support both birth moms and postpartum moms at the same time so I am seeing 2 clients in an overlapping time period however I ensure taking all precautions to stay safe including – leaving shoes outside the house, wearing a mask and gloves (especially inside the home) and wearing a different clothes between hospital and the home.

    Introduce yourself!
Coming from a lineage of birth workers, I was raised in a very matriarchal family. My great grandmother was a partera, or midwife, in her village in Puerto Rico for decades before immigrating to the United States. I was always taught to recognize the power within women, to see it, to acknowledge it, and to help women recognize their own strength and empower them.

How do you help new parents?
Being a great-granddaughter of a life-trained midwife, I believe no person should go without the services and support they need. My goal is to see doula support become widely available to those disproportionately affected by medical bias.

Why did you pursue this career?
My first experience with the miracle that is childbirth was at 16 years old. I instantly fell in love and knew I’d pursue birth-work from that moment on. I began nursing school and quickly realized the medical side of birth, while invaluable and irreplaceable, restricted my calling to connect and assist women on the emotional and spiritual level.

“Jocelyn worked with my partner and me during a VERY long overnight labor. She was a dream come true. Her presence was natural, unobtrusive, and extremely respectful. She is clearly gifted at reading the mood in a room and anticipating needs/desires. When the time came to transition from home to hospital, she worked seamlessly with medical staff to ensure my birth plan was disseminated and honored as best it could be. She served as an in the moment problem solver, a team player when my partner or the nurse needed a moment, and a calming force that allowed me to have a birth experience I could reflect on with positive feelings, despite challenges and curve balls (because aren’t there always?) I would be honored to have Jocelyn as my doula if the opportunity arises again.”
